About Kaleva
Kaleva is a curriculum and school to learn the Arabic language, especially for native and non-native speakers who live outside the Arabic world. It started in Finland in 2015 and therefore it took its name from the Kalevala (the national epic of Finland). Kalevala is literally "place or home of a hero," from Kaleva "hero or highest authority" + -la "place." It is believed that Kaleva originally refers to Khalifa (the king of Baghdad) as he was the highest authority at that time.
Kaleva curriculum was built based on the Finnish approach to developing an education curriculum. Kaleva has three levels: letters, words and sentences. These three levels are used as a bridge for students who live outside the Arabic world to start with this curriculum and then connect to any Arabic curriculum developed/used in the Arabic world.
Kaleva use to be a physical-based school. However, during the pandemic, it turns into a distance learning school serving students from several European countries. Nowadays, we have 54 students from twelve countries.
